At about the time fluidless haptic lenses were being developed an optician, Kevin Touhy, cut the haptic lens down to about 11.5 mm.  This lens rested on the cornea and was the start of the corneal contact lens.  Due to the movement with blinking, tear exchange took place and decreased the corneal edema.

  6. The fitting and manufacture of corneal lenses was easier than haptics.
